In this video, we explore the exciting twists brought to the Moog transistor ladder filter in Messenger.

Messenger features the traditional transistor ladder filter designed by Bob Moog in the 1960s but uses an innovative pole-mixing method to derive new filter modes.

Let’s take a look at the classic 4-pole lowpass response as well as the new 2-pole lowpass mode, bandpass mode, and highpass mode. We also look at how the RES BASS switch can be used to preserve the low end of our signal when resonance is increased and the sound design benefits that it creates. We look at how to use the FB/EXT IN control to add feedback into the signal and how we can use a patch cable to replicate Minimoog Model D style post-filter feedback. Finally, we explore using the OSC 2 -- CUTOFF control for audio rate filter FM.
