Episode 4 - Heaven on Earth - KASHMIR - PAHALGAM

Pehalgam, This is another beautiful place in Kashmir and and we would recommend that everyone should visit this place.

This is the 4th and final Episode of our Kashmir trip. After leaving from Gulmarg, we came back to Tangmarg to return the rented snow boots and jackets.
After which, we headed to the Drung waterfall which is hardly 3-4 kms drive from Tangmarg. This is yet another amazing place which I would highly recommend to visit especially in winters. It's not very often that you see a frozen waterfall with such beautiful view around. If you have Gulmarg on your travel list, don't miss this beautiful cascading waterfall set amidst majestic mountains. It freezes completely in winters and the temperatures drop between -10°C to -20°C and even below that.

With the picture perfect of Gulmarg in heart, we headed straight to our next destination Pahalgam. It's around 140 Kms journey which took us around 4 hours by road to reach Pahalgam. The views while you head towards Pahalgam are quite different. You will start seeing the saffron fields on both the sides of the road.
We even purchased some original Kesar and Kahwa from Anmol Kesar Co. shop (NH-44, Lethpora, Pampore) which was on the way to Pahalgam.
You can also visit the colorful and beautiful Aishmuqam Dargah on the way where the 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' film shooting was done. Due to time constraint, we headed straight to the Pahalgam valley.

Pahalgam, known as the 'Valley of Shepherds', is a famous hill station located at a height of 7200 ft. Pahalgam is surrounded by beautiful pine trees views throughout the route and the views are just amazing with the snow-clad mountains and Lidder river flowing alongside.
We would advice you to carry heavy winter wear clothes and snow shoes as there will be a lot of ice, if you visit here in Winters.

We reached the Pahalgam valley and booked a horse ride to visit the different points like Dabyan, Baisaran, Denow Valley, Waterfall, Kanimarg, Pahalgam valley and Tulyan Lake. You can either trek or book a horse ride to visit these places. In heavy winters it is advisable to book a horse ride and the rates depend on the the number of points you cover. We booked the ride for around 2000 per head to cover till Baisaran point.
There are lot of activities which can be done in Pahalgam valley like Skiing, Trekking, Horse riding, etc. Make sure you negotiate the price well before opting for any activities as the price vary based on season and vendors.

Horse Riding on the slow clad mountains in winters, initially might be a bit scary but gradually you will love the experience. The waterfall points isn't quite visible in winters as it gets freeze due to low temperatures.
Once, you reach Baisaran, which is also called Mini-Switzerland, there is an entry ticket of Rs.30/- for each adult. The views here are breathtaking. You will completely fall in love with this place.

You can either book your stay and travel by your own or you can opt out options given by travel agencies. We have booked our entire tour from KashmirPort agency. We stayed at the Eden Resorts & Spa, Pahalgam. The experience was amazing and hospitality was exceptional. I would definitely suggest to go with the options provided by them, they also assist you to choose different options of stays and transport based on your requirement and travel plans.

Note: Do remember while traveling to Kashmir, all pre-paid SIM gets deactivated. Only Postpaid SIM works or else you need to purchase a new SIM here. In winters carry thermals and thick jackets as the temperature drops down drastically. You can also rent out shoes and jackets from the local markets on arrival for a day or more depending on the requirement.
