STORYLINE:
Prince William and Kate Middleton capped a three-day visit to Boston by attending tonight's Earthshot Prize award ceremony. The Prince and Princess of Wales arrived to cheers and applause from crowds who gathered to see the royals and their guests.

Among those providing the star power for the glitzy show were Ellie Goulding, Chloe x Halle, and Shailene Woodley and Rami Malek who were tapped to present prizes along with comedian Catherine O'Hara.

Malek stopped on the green carpet to talk to reporters about the climate challenge. "It's the greatest crisis of our lifetime and I appreciate what Prince William is doing and in the next 10 years I think the impact will be staggering. And really effect change in the greatest way with these innovators who are being awarded this evening. It can easily be thought of as something that is pessimistic gloom and doom and Earthshot's taking a way to flip it on its head and say let's inspire people to come up with the greatest solutions we can to save this planet," he said.

Chloe Bailey, of Chloe x Halle, who were invited to perform a song at the awards ceremony said, "We're just so happy that it's about the environment and protecting what we have right now. We can't take things for granted and expect them when it's gone so we really have to take care of it and I'm happy we can use our gift of song and voice and sisterhood to inspire people to want to preserve our Earth."

The event also featured videos narrated by naturalist David Attenborough and actor Cate Blanchett.

William became heir apparent less than three months ago with the death of his grandmother, the queen, but he already has been crowned Britain's chief environmentalist. That was apparent during Boston visit, which earned praise for drawing attention to pollution and climate change and the need to scale up solutions.

The second annual Earthshot Prize offered 1 million pounds ($1.2 million) in prize money to each of the winners in five separate categories: nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination and climate change. The winners and all 15 finalists will receive help in expanding their projects to meet global demand.

The winners, announced at Boston's MGM Music Hall, were:
