I had an order for some outdoor garden benches for a client. They had some design specs, and they wanted the bench to be no bigger than 24” from front to back, and still have a comfortably sloping seat & backrest. They also needed storage underneath the seats. So this is the design that I came up with.
It is made from western red cedar, and will last forever outdoors. Cedar naturally resists rot and insects, and weathers to a beautiful color as it ages. For this bench however, we are applying a stain to match an existing project that the customer already has.
I applied our usual building techniques to make it as strong as I could. My daughters helped as usual. I hope you like it. And should you decide to build one, there is a detailed set of plans linked at the top of this page.
