Established in the year 1960, the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar is a government-run institution for higher education and advanced research, mainly in engineering and technology.

It was started as the Regional Engineering College and is amongst the oldest establishments by the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) system. It received the current title in 2007 and is commonly regarded as NIT Srinagar. The Central Government has recognized it as an institution of National Importance. The Institute is situated at the banks of world-famous Dal Lake, with the far-famed Hazratbal Shrine on other side of the campus. NIT Srinagar is a residential Institute with accommodation facility in Hostels and Staff-Quarters. The National Institute of Technology, Srinagar offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and research courses in multiple specializations.
