In this video, we are discussing the Prologue to the Canterbury Tales. We begin with a brief introduction of the prologue to the Canterbury Tales written by Geoffrey Chaucer. The 29 pilgrims plus Chaucer the narrator meet at the Tabard Inn. They are going on a pilgrimage from London to the tomb of St. Thomas Beckett who was martyred at the Canterbury Cathedral in 1170.
In this video, we are discussing the portraits of 21 canterbury tales pilgrims. The Pilgrims belong to 2 classes : Nobility, Ecclesiastical and Commoners.
The Canterbury Tales characters that we have discussed in this video are: Knight, Squire, Yeoman, Prioress, Monk, Friar, Merchant, Cook, Sergeant of the Law, Franklin, Doctor of Physic, Shipman, Clerk, Wife of Bath, Pardoner, Summoner, Parson, Plowman, Miller, Manciple and Reeve.
Canterbury Tales would have been a collection of 120 tales but Chaucer could finish only 24 stories before his death.
