It could be a fruitless summer for lovers of the mango, one of Taiwan's top three fruit exports.

Recent extreme weather is likely to decrease the supply of mangoes by up to 80%. For the mangoes that can beat the heat, researchers say drought, high temperatures and a lack of rain could cause fruit to become smaller.

One vendor said the price of mangoes is almost three times that of last year — a dramatic increase that will likely be passed on to consumers.
