The race to commercial quantum computers is one of the most exciting technological challenges of our generation. The potential to disrupt the computing status quo in unprecedented ways is fueling nations and organizations across industry, government, and academia to accelerate the realization of quantum computing and its application to problems of socio-economic importance.
But what will the computing environments in which quantum computing will be used look like?
How should we as an industry prepare and best serve the users who will benefit from our technologies?

Current high-performance computing (HPC) platforms increasingly depend on heterogeneous architectures to meet user requirements. This heterogeneity reflects the varied nature of algorithms, applications, and workflows, with the opportunity for quantum architectures to further accelerate portions of these. Embracing heterogeneity will be necessary for moving towards usable quantum computing with vast implications on the control and integration layers in both hardware and software. The Quantum Machines’ Quantum Orchestration Platform (QOP) has demonstrated the ability to support multiple QPU architectures along with hybrid quantum-classical algorithms, laying the groundwork for further tightly coupled integration. This talk will cover the considerations, implications, and opportunities of quantum computing in heterogeneous environments.
