What it Means to be Charismatic

Описание к видео What it Means to be Charismatic

Sometimes we forget what it means to be a charismatic Catholic. It doesn’t mean we go to praise and worship rallies and listen to all of the most popular Catholic speakers (although these are not bad things). Jackie clarifies that being a charismatic Catholic simply means embracing the charisms (or gifts) of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives gifts of faith, teaching, healing, wisdom, prophecy, the gift of tongues, and discernment of spirits, among others.

All of them are given to us to build up the Body of Christ in some way. These charisms need to be tested though, because the devil tries to deceive us into thinking his traps are God’s gifts.

The best way to test a possible gift of the Holy Spirit is by using prayer, Scripture, and the guidance of the Church. Read the Acts of the Apostles and the lives of the saints to see many of the charisms of the Holy Spirit in action. Jackie also encourages you to pray, asking God to tell you what your charism is if you do not know already. We all have a charism by virtue of our baptism.
Here is where you can read about the charisms of the Holy Spirit in the Catechism and Scripture:
Catechism:
“Whether extraordinary or simple and humble, charisms are graces of the Holy Spirit which directly or indirectly benefit the Church, ordered as they are to her building up, to the good of men, and to the needs of the world.
Charisms are to be accepted with gratitude by the person who receives them and by all members of the Church as well” (CCC 799-800).
Scripture:

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are inspired by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills” (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).
