The thing about climate change is that it is one thing after another. Now it’s the invasive “murder hornet” that can kill a human.

The Asian giant hornet is the world’s largest. It can kill you with its venom but perhaps the biggest problem or potentially the most widespread is that it is extremely dangerous for the European honeybee.

The hornet has been found for the first time in the U.S.. It’s about the size of an adult thumb, has a yellow and orange head….and is most destructive in the late summer and early fall.

Bringing me to our slay word DISINGENUOUS for deceitful. People who tell you global warming is not a problem are being disingenuous… its causing a dangerous migration of insects. This one is killing honey bees and honey bees are the world's most important pollinator of food crops. It is estimated that one third of the food that we consume each day relies on pollination mainly by bees.

Honey bees are super pollinators. They help flowers and plants reproduce. When a honey bee lands on the flower of a plant, pollen from the flower’s male reproductive organ sticks to the hairs on the bee’s body. The honey bee then carry that pollen to another flower where it comes in contact with the flower’s female reproductive organ, creating the opportunity for fertilization.

Honey bees are not picky. They will pollinate anything. That’s good for us because they visit a wide variety of flowers. Without honey bees and other bee species your food options will shrink dramatically… and one third of the food that humans eat would not be available!

Without the services of bees and other pollinators, pollinator-dependent plants can’t reproduce. Think about no flowering plants and fruit trees. If there is not food for animals that eat plants or fruits to survive, there is not food chain. The honey bee is central to our survival. And by the way we use a lot of honey. Of the honey consumed in the US in 2018, 152.3 million pounds was produced in the US, and 442.6 million pounds was imported We consumed nearly 600 million pound of honey in 2018.
