🦠What is the Nipah virus?
Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus that can be transmitted from animals 🦇🐖 to humans, causing a range of clinical presentations, from asymptomatic infection to acute respiratory infection and fatal encephalitis. Frequent Nipah outbreaks have been reported lately in Asia (Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Bangladesh and India) since 1998/1999.

🤧What are the symptoms of Nipah virus Infection in humans?
The infection starts like any other viral infection, such as Fever, Headache, Myalgia, vomiting and sore throat. This can be followed by the appearance of breathlessness, dizziness, drowsiness, altered consciousness, seizure and coma. Rapid progression to coma can happen in 1 to 2 days.

The First Nipah virus outbreak in India happened in West Bengal (2001 ). But lately, Kerala has been in the news for repeated Nipah virus outbreaks in the last five years. Kozhikkode, Ernakulam and Malappuram were districts affected.
