Noel Gallagher and friends perform "Don't Look Back In Anger" at The Chapel Melbourne, Australia (11.12.06).

"I went up to The Manor when Paul Weller was recording Stanley Road and that's when I did my bit on Walking On Guilded Splinters. He played me his song, Wings Of Speed, and that was the feel I tried to get on Don't Look Back In Anger. I did it live for the first time at Sheffield Arena. Should people put their lives in the hands of a rock n' roll band? If it's us then, yeah, I think they can. Some of the lines come from John Lennon. I got this tape in America that had apparently been burgled from the Dakota Hotel and someone had found these cassettes. Lennon was starting to record his memoirs on tape. He´s going on about `trying to start a revolution from me bed, because they said the brains I had went to my head.´ Thank you, I'll take that. It's about not being upset about the things you might have said or done yesterday. It's about looking forward rather than looking back. I hate people who look back on the past or talk about what might have been." ~ Noel Gallagher

Lyrics:

Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
Will slowly fade away

So I start a revolution from my bed
'Cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside, summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
'cause You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

And so Sally can wait,
she knows it's too late as we're walking on by
Her soul slides away, but don't look back in anger
I heard you say

Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows, if it's night or day.
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a Rock 'n Roll band
and throw it all away

Gonna start the revolution from my bed
'Cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside the summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

And So Sally can wait,
she knows it's too late as we're walking on by.
her soul slides away, but don't look back in anger
I heard you say

And So Sally can wait,
she knows it's too late as we're walking on by
Her soul slides away, but don't look back in anger
I heard you say

So Sally can wait,
she knows it's too late and we're walking on by
Her soul slides away, but don't look back in anger, don't look back in anger
I heard you say

At least, not today.
