Dogs communicate via body language
Do we know exactly what they are saying -no not really yet based on the context of the situation they can and do provide subtle cues we often miss .
Turrid Rugaas studied canine body language came up with early body signals that dogs use to calm themselves or calm other living creatures (like us humans)
In this video we are teaching this lovely GSD a Control Unleashed Game where we are starting to add minor distractions. The goal is she needs to move away from the mild distraction the helper is holding and return to the trainer who will give her something better!
You can see her reluctance -she is not fully committed but is rewarded well for her effort and correct choice. Following Juno does a shake off which based on the context of the situation I read as she "could" be saying "wow that was hard".
Interesting enough the owner immediately thinks of a situation where his dog has used a shake off to self calm /reduce adrenaline
