🤔 Think about your IOL!

Before having cataract surgery, one big decision you'll have to make is choosing which Intraocular Lens Implant (IOL) to get. These artificial lenses, which replace the cloudy natural lenses removed from the eye during cataract surgery, are made of a safe plastic called "Hydrophobic Acrylic."

There are several lens options to consider, depending on your visual needs and vision goals after surgery:

🔹 Monofocal lenses provide clear vision at a set distance, typically farther away. For example, you would be able to see the road signs ahead clearly while driving but would need glasses to read a book up close. Most insurances cover monofocal lenses.

🔹 Range-of-focus lenses are designed to provide an extended range of vision, helping you see clearly at far and intermediate distances, while also reducing the need for glasses for near tasks. Unfortunately, most insurances do not cover these more advanced IOLs, so there will be an out-of-pocket cost.

🔹 "Toric" versions of monofocal and range-of-focus lenses are also available for those with astigmatism, helping further improve vision after surgery.
