CAN YOU SPEAK MONGOOSE?!

The wild Mongoose call included has probably only been heard by a select few people in history - out of billions - it is ultra rare to hear and I managed to finally record it!

After decades of Meerkat call research, I have also been learning wild Mongoose communication and getting these rare vocalisations recorded.

CURRENT NEWS IN THE TSEBOKOLODI YELLOW MONGOOSE GROUP!

SAWUBONA IS BACK!

Currently the dominant male Shongololo is still absent from the group however Sawubona has returned to the group again.

Sawubona was very vocal and repeatedly called and scent marked her litter mate Ngiyabonga and the dominant female Tsebokolodi as documented in this video.

Today there has been a sighting of a migrant Mongoose, possibly a potential immigrant I suspect due to the breeding vacancy left by the dominant male being away.

PREVIOUSLY:

On the 10th October 2019 Sawubona was not seen within the group and the dominant male Shongololo was also absent - I was concerned that this may have been a double predation due to the increase in predator density with the ongoing drought.

However I suspected a possible emmigration by the dominant male in search of breeding opportunities in surrounding groups.

The Tsebokolodi Yellow Mongoose Group composition currently consists of the following three (previously four) members (three females - prior to this litter there were four males and two females at the start of 2018.)

Tsebokolodi the dominant female.
(currently missing from the group since 10 October 2019: Shongololo the dominant male)

Sawubona - November 2018 litter female.
Ngiyabonga - November 2018 litter female.

Missing from the group over 2018:
Impi the second male and only survivor from his litter in July 2015.
Mzuri the second female and only survivor from her litter in September 2016.
November / December 2017 litter which emerged in January 2018: Sole survivor juvenile male Katunguru missing later in 2018 after Tokolosh - possibly emigrated. (Tokolosh gone since 24 June 2018.)

Tragically Mongooses often get persecuted even more than Meerkats, Mongooses are frequently villainised in the media too which has a terribly negative impact on erasing ignorance and promoting conservation of the species.

Conservation Through Education is essential - for every person who tells another about the plight of Wild and Free Mongooses and their habitat loss through destroying of their sleeping burrows, pesticides on their food, and the illegal in most areas pet trade we can help conserve the Mongoose and it's habitat - all it takes is spreading the word to help achieve our goal.

This is a sister campaign of the Meerkat Magic Conservation Project, as the Tsebokolodi Mongoose group and other Mongoose species in The Meerkat Magic Valley Reserve share one of their main burrows with the world famous Ungulungu Meerkat group.

Mongooses and Meerkats share many of the same habitats and therefore suffer from many of the same conservation challenges to protect them and their environments.

MONGOOSE MAGIC MOMENTS:
The Tsebokolodi Yellow Mongoose group is a protected study group of wild Yellow Mongooses (Cynictis penicillata) living in The Meerkat Magic Valley Reserve of The Meerkat Magic Conservation Project, they share the home territory of the world famous Meerkats of The Ungulungu Meerkat group.

The Meerkat Magic Conservation Project's MONGOOSE MAGIC MOMENTS feature mongoose species living in The Meerkat Magic Valley Reserve of The Meerkat Magic Conservation Project which is part of The Ungulungu Meerkat Groups territory. The yellow mongooses (Cynictis penicillata) from The Tsebokolodi mongoose group are a primary feature.
