WROCLAW (Wrocław) is western Poland’s cultural and economic hub, and also its largest city. It's pronounced as “vrots-lauf”, and not “wro-claw”. A part of Germany prior to the end of World War II, the city sits on the banks of the River Oder and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is the main attraction here. It is located in one of the nicest parts of the city. The gothic church has two spires and is home to the largest organ in Poland. Because Wrocław isn’t overrun with tourists and is such an important cultural and economic centre in Poland, it has a distinct homely feel to it.

The Cathedral's tall stature provides the perfect vantage point to look out over the city and catch some wonderful views. An elevator will take you to the top for just 10 zl. Don’t forget to cross the lovelock bridge on the way to the cathedral. During sightseeing I often wondered, Why aren’t more people making a fuss over Wrocław? Well, the tourism board of Wrocław faces a difficult task. No doubt, they have a great product, but it’s tough to push it out to a market dominated by other tourist hotspot like Kraków, Gdansk and the capital, Warsaw. Wrocław is an absolutely stunning place that is well worth visiting, and it’s accessibility and budget-friendly nature make it a prime location for a European city break. After all, it didn’t become European Capital of Culture 2016 for no good reason. But just because it might be under-the-radar, doesn’t mean that it always will be that way. Hopefully its popularity continues to grow, because Wrocław is a great city and deserves the acclaim.

Another notable acclaim in Wroclaw will be for it's Dwarfs, it is virtually impossible to come here and fail to see one. Now a symbol of the city, the dwarfs first appeared in 2001 when a statue of one was erected on Świdnicka Street in commemoration of the Orange Alternative, an anti-communist movement in Poland. Rather than fighting back, the city authorities honored the group and commissioned the placing of a dwarf statue in the city Centre. Dwarf fever has since grown in Wrocław and now, 165 of the gnomes adorn the city streets in different locations.

Wrocław’s Marketsquare is both it's centerpiece and a masterpiece. It was rebuilt from a pile of rubble after the World War II and captures the essence of classic Polish and German architecture.
A spectacular blend of colorful and vibrant buildings surround the perimeter - it’s one of the best parts of Wroclaw!

Also, while Wrocław may be the biggest city in western Poland, the city centre itself isn’t big enough for visitors to need to rely on public transport to get around. The city and most of the main attractions can be easily reached on foot but there are some far flung areas where one of the inexpensive city trams will help save some time and energy. One of Poland’s greatest assets is how inexpensive it is despite being at the heart of Europe. Wrocław is also home to plenty of great restaurants, but don’t just stick to restaurants for food, try some Polish snacks too. And in addition to great food, the nightlife in Wrocław is top-notch, and it has to be to satisfy such a large student population and the strong expat community. It's a perfect work and play location.

Overall, Wrocław was a wonderful delight and my fairy tale of a Polish trip continues! What an amazing experience it has been till now and I am excited about what the next days will bring. Poland is just magical and everyone needs to visit and experience the Polish hospitality at least once in their lifetime; trust me, you'll be blown away!
