Описание к видео Doctor explains BEST FOODS FOR EYE HEALTH AND VISION

In this video, Dr. O'Donovan explains the best foods and food groups to eat to improve you eye health and vision and reduce risk of disease like cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye and age-related macular degeneration.

Everyone should get their eyes checked every 2 years.

The food groups include:

1. FOODS RICH IN VITAMIN A
Carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe and apricots.
2. DARK LEAFY GREEN VEGETABLES
Dark green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach and broccoli are rich in the antioxidant’s lutein and zeaxanthin, which are present in high concentrations in the retina. These antioxidants act as a filter and protect the retina from damaging blue light.
3. FOODS RICH IN VITAMIN C
Orange and red fruits and vegetables like red peppers, oranges, strawberries, broccoli, and kiwi.
4. OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS.
Salmon, sardines and herring have the most omega-3s, but flounder, halibut and tuna are also good sources.
5. SOURCES OF VITAMIN E
Another important antioxidant is vitamin E, which helps keep cells healthy and can be found in things such as avocados, sunflower seeds and almonds.
One seven-year study in 3,640 people with AMD showed that taking 400 IU (international unit) of vitamin E and several other nutrients in a daily supplement called age-related eye disease studies (AREDS) reduced the risk of progressing to advanced stages by 25%.
6. FOODS RICH IN ZINC.
This includes oysters, turkey, eggs, peanuts and whole grains and that is because Zinc may be able to slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration.
