Angels, and demons, and giants... Oh my!

The votes are in and in a tight race Malice by John Gwynne, the first book in the Faithful and the Fallen, beat out Jade City by Fonda Lee, the first in The Green Bone Saga, for my next adult fantasy read.

I've been wanting to read both series for awhile but couldn't decide which I was in the mood to start so I polled my followers on bookstagram to make the choice for me.

I really enjoyed this epic fantasy. Massive battle scenes, coming of age farmboy to hero (well, blacksmith's son, same concept), a wolven companion... what more could I want?! There's even a talking crow. It's very much a story of good versus evil with the approaching prophesied god-war and the various pawns in this global scale pending disaster.

A black sun is rising …

Those who can still read the signs see a threat far greater than the ancient wars. Sorrow will darken the world, as angels and demons make it their battlefield. Then there will be a war to end all wars.

High King Aquilus summons his fellow kings to council, seeking an alliance in this time of need. Some are skeptical, fighting their own border skirmishes against pirates and giants. But prophesy indicates darkness and light will demand two champions, the Black Sun and the Bright Star. They would be wise to seek out both, for if the Black Sun gains ascendancy, mankind’s hopes and dreams will fall to dust.
