Interpreted Programming Languages use an Interpreter installed on the Operating System to turn text into a program. You code in plain text and then the interpreter reads that text and runs the instructions you have provided.

An interpreter is like any other program on your computer and must be installed on the system to be able to run a specific languages code, and there will be updates and versions of the interpreter.

Some functions and frameworks work with different versions of the interpreter. Such as Python is currently at version 3.13 but the pyTorch AI framework will only work with up to version 3.12.

The same code will run on any system with the interpreter installed. Python written on a Mac can run on Windows and Linux with no need to "port" the code in general.
