The Afternoon Commute; V/Line Trains at Ardeer during Afternoon Peak Hour - Melbourne Transport

Описание к видео The Afternoon Commute; V/Line Trains at Ardeer during Afternoon Peak Hour - Melbourne Transport

In this video we visit Ardeer, a small quiet station along the Ballarat/Geelong Line in Melbourne's inner western suburbs. We visit the station during the afternoon peak where we see a good variety of V/Line passenger trains including stopping and express trains. We see the usual variety of Vlocity DMU trains, including two nine-car Vlocity trains heading towards Wyndham Vale. At over 227.25 meters the nine-car Vlocity trains are the longest commuter trains in Australia.

We also see a great variety of N Class locomotive-hauled trains, including several services with H Set carriages on commuter services to Bacchus Marsh, and long-distance services to Warrnambool with N Set carriages. This video showed an era where locomotive-hauled commuter trains in Victoria were still relatively common, but are now being phased out as more modern Vlocity DMU's enter service.

At the time of filming this video there were five locomotive-hauled trains to Bacchus Marsh with H Sets, however at the time of uploading this video there is only one left. The last locomotive-hauled train to Bacchus Marsh with a H Set is scheduled to take place on Thursday 7th December 2023 with the 5:21pm Melton/Bacchus Marsh service, with a return trip back to Melbourne the following morning at 7:26am.

This will mark a nail in the coffin for the V/Line H Set carriages which are in the process of being retired. After this week only one V/Line train with a H Set will remain; being the 7:23am service to Melbourne Southern Cross from Geelong in the morning, and the return 4:31pm service to Geelong in the afternoon.

After sitting at the station we then visit various trackside spots around the area, including various pedestrian crossings.

Ardeer station originally opened on the 2nd April 1929 near the former Fitzgerald Road level crossing. It was renamed Ardeer Siding in 1934 and was closed on the 28th August 1956. Ardeer station reopened in its current form on the 2nd May 1977, not longer after the line was duplicated from Sunshine to Deer Park west the year prior. The station has barely changed since 1977 and it's one of the most basic train stations in Melbourne. Ardeer is served only by various services along the Ballarat Line, Geelong Line services do pass through Ardeer but do not stop here.
