Punch King - Arcade Boxing (GBA) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

Описание к видео Punch King - Arcade Boxing (GBA) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Acclaim's 2002 boxing game for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, Punch King - Arcade Boxing.

Played through the entire circuit, including the "surprise" end boss, with no losses. I won every fight within the first round.

Punch King is another GBA Punch-Out!! clone, and it's another very good one. The graphics are neatly reminiscent of the original arcade Punch-Out!!'s, with the super pixelated, super large fighter graphics, the player character with green hair, the cheesy voice overs. The game plays well except for the really strange and somewhat broken collision-detection. The screen doesn't always center itself exactly the way the fight engine anticipates that it will, so there are times where you can, according to the graphics, be ducking on the other side of the screen from the enemy throwing an uppercut, yet despite standing what looks like 6 feet from one another, it still registers as a hit. With a bit of memorization and practice you can compensate for this by reacting according to the type of punch being thrown rather than apparent relative distance, but it's still really awkward and holds the game back. It's still really fun - it's just super frustrating to learn. That, and notice that green bar that drains stupidly fast every time I press a button? Yeah, that's a stamina bar. I get the want to mimic the Punch-Out!! system by limiting your energy, but the restriction is pretty harsh here, and really slows the fights down until you can get the red KO bar filled. Then the pace picks up and things get interesting - for the five seconds it takes to knock the enemy out. Oh well. Suffice it to say, if you don't like really hard games, this is probably not for you. I've spent a fair amount of time with this one over the years and always found myself coming back, no matter how angry it has the tendency to make me when its not in a good mood.
