On 5 February 1989, Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch launched Sky Television, his newest media venture. Holding a press conference alongside Sky TV Chairman Andrew Neil, Murdoch was quizzed about Sky TV's relationship with broadcasting unions. Later on, Murdoch was interviewed alone about how much of a risk he believed the channel to be, and how much time and money he was willing to sacrifice to make it a success. A reporter asking whether the channel's content would be "upmarket" or "downmarket" prompted a strong response from Murdoch, who rejected the concepts as "English class-ridden snobbery".

It was announced last week that Rupert Murdoch is stepping aside as chairman of News Corp and Fox Corporation. Murdoch's announcement included a statement that the 92-year-old remains in "robust health". Rupert's son, Lachlan Murdoch, has taken over as chairman of News Corp. The announcement of Lachlan Murdoch as his father's successor answers the long-standing question of who would take the reins of Rupert Murdoch's multinational media empire when he stepped aside. That same question inspired the hit HBO series Succession, written by Jesse Armstrong and starring Brian Cox.
