Serologic Testing: What Are Antibodies?

Описание к видео Serologic Testing: What Are Antibodies?

A serologic test, also known as an antibody test, looks for antibodies to viruses in the bloodstream. Antibodies are disease-specific proteins that help fight off infections, and their presence in your blood can help determine whether you have been exposed to and infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19 disease or is possibly immune to reinfection*.

Penn Medicine Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is conducting research and clinical studies to further understand the science behind COVID-19. Including examining how specific testing can help find people who are still at risk of getting COVID-19, as well as uncovering how the virus is spreading in communities.

*Disclaimer: We do not yet know if antibodies from SARS-CoV-2 will protect people from getting infected again and research is still being done on that subject.
