There's another spark in the years-long fight over land off Stadium Drive and Drake Road in Kalamazoo, after Drive and Shine Car Wash put in a request to build next to a major nature preserve.

Advocates call the Asylum Lake Nature Preserve on South Drake Road a treasure of Kalamazoo.

They say it's invaluable for recreation, research and ecological protection, but believe all of that could go away if nearby land becomes a commercial zone rather than a residential one.

According to city records, 4701 Stadium Dr. is owned by Drive and Shine, and currently designated as a Residential Single-Dwelling District.
