The Gustar verb is a special breed of verb! It is a power verb so put it in your power verb/ core verb list. This verb can be used just like the other power verbs you have learned in level II (querer, necesitar etc..)

Reasons why it´s a fab verb:
• Excellent for getting to know people and their preferences
• Great for socializing
• When used correctly, it shows you care & value people´s opinions
• Used almost every day in conversations

Gustar does not conjugate like all the other verbs you have worked with in the past. When you create a gustar sentence, the subject ( box 1.) of your sentence has no influence over the verb´s ¨conjugations¨ but rather the end of your sentence (box 3) is what determines how the verb behaves. This is why it is called an impersonal verb and why it is extra special!

GUSTAR CONJUGATIONS:

ME GUSTA/ GUSTAN
TE GUSTA/GUSTAN
LE GUSTA/GUSTAN
NOS GUSTA/ GUSTAN
LES GUSTA/GUSTAN

Me has two options, GUSTA OR GUSTAN. One is singular and one is plural. The subject doesn´t affect
your choice but the noun at the end of your sentence.

EXAMPLES:
Me gusta el café VS Me gustan los cafes.
Le gusta la clase VS Le gustan las clases
Nos gusta la pizza VS Nos gustan las pizzas
Te gusta la maestra VS Te gustan las maestras
Les gusta el vino VS Les gustan los vinos

Study the examples carefully and you will see that the ending is what requires you to choose either
GUSTA OR GUSTAN; the subject does not!

Example: ME GUSTAN LOS TACOS =

We are using GUSTAN here because the sentence ends in tacos which is plural.
