Title: The Form of Adaptation_1
Lithograph on Marble, 2019
Poland

I focus on the familiar code - the light/object/dark relationship.
In the world that we know objects always exist in an extremely consistent relationship - light/object/dark. In the presence of light and dark we are able to read shapes, distances, forms and their mutual relationships. The light/dark relationship is always absolutely precise and perfectly consistent.
But what if we deliberately separate the elements of this system? If we treat the object, light and dark as independent components? Will inexistent objects cast real, material shadows and will the rhythm and direction of light in the same system be deliberately distributed?
In my lithographs I describe compositions and spaces using the gap in the code.

The Ottawa School of Art was pleased to present the Eighth International Miniature Print exhibition from October 19 to November 22 2020. The show brought together artists from around the world who have responded to the call for submissions and we have an excellent exhibition with 355 works by 135 artists from 21 different countries.

An invited jury of three art professionals with printmaking expertise, Guillermo Trejo – Instructor for OSA, Sam Loewen – Creative Director, Studio Sixtysix – Contemporary Art Gallery Farouk Kaspaules – Instructor for OSA, will be asked to select one print from five categories: Relief, Intaglio, Lithography, Screen Print, and New Media, while OSA’s Executive Director, Jeff Stellick chose one – Director’s Pick. OSA will purchase the six selected prints and they will become part of OSA’s permanent art collection. The artists whose work is selected will have their entry fees waived for the ninth miniature print biennale exhibition in 2022 and their selected print will be featured prominently in the gallery, in the exhibition catalogue, and online at artottawa.ca.
