If you love something, please, please, please keep it. I am not here to tell you that you have to get rid of anything that you love. And the things that you love are going to be completely different than the things that I love.

My job is just to help you identify the things that you think you love, but you actually don't, so that I can give you permission to get rid of those items. So you can keep the things you do love and make room for them that allows you to store them in a respectful way. But we're talking about memories, here, we're talking about things that this person loves, is almost confident they will need in the short term future and does not have the money to replace them. If that is the case, please, please please keep them. But I want you to keep them in a way that shows respect to the item that you're keeping.

So if it's a small collection of items, I want you to put them in a sturdy tote with a locking lid and I want you to store it someplace where it's not going to get damaged by any outside influences such as an attic that gets super super high, you wouldn't want to put candles or photos or anything like that in storage up there because it's going to melt and it's going to get damaged.

If it's a collection, you could put it on shelves out in your family room where you can see it every day. If it's a huge collection, rotate that collection out. If it's supplies that you need for a smaller home, like maybe you love to can, but you don't have time to do it right now. And you haven't had time for a few years. But you know, when you retire, you will have time to can again. So then you put all those canning items together in storage containers, labeled them clearly and then put them in a place. So when you do retire, you know exactly where they are, they are stored in a way that's going to keep the integrity of the item. Therefore when you're ready to do that activity again, all your supplies are there ready to go.

I hope that helps you differentiate clutter and things that you love and definitely want to keep. So if it makes you happy, please keep it if you use it routinely please keep it if it's something you rely on as a tool or service as or supply, please keep it your next step once you decide to keep it is to find a home for it.

As long as you use it, love it or need it. You have room to store it or located so you know where it is all the time, then that is something that absolutely needs to stay in your home.
