Mathura is a city unlike any other. Seeped deep in history, faith and art, the city unfortunately doesn’t often get its due. I hope to change that.

This scared city in Uttar Pradesh, India, is renowned as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. Rich in cultural and historical significance, it boasts ancient temples, vibrant festivals, and serene ghats along the Yamuna River.

I spent five days in the sweltering heat of May to capture these stories from Mathura! Join me as I explore Mathura's spiritual heritage, architectural marvels, and bustling bazaars in this captivating journey through one of India's holiest cities.

Some key places I covered in this video include:

Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple:
The Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple, believed to be the exact birthplace of Lord Krishna, is the most significant religious site in Mathura. This temple complex houses various shrines and a small prison cell where Krishna is said to have been born. Pilgrims from all over the world visit to offer their prayers and witness the vibrant rituals.

Dwarkadhish Temple:
Built in 1814, the Dwarkadhish Temple is renowned for its stunning architecture and intricate carvings. Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this temple is particularly famous for its elaborate celebrations during Janmashtami and Holi. The temple's beautiful deity and the lively atmosphere make it a must-visit.

Vishram Ghat:
Situated along the banks of the Yamuna River, Vishram Ghat is a significant and picturesque site. According to legend, Lord Krishna rested here after defeating the demon king Kansa. The evening aarti (prayer ceremony) held at the ghat is a mesmerizing experience, with the river lit up by countless floating diyas (lamps).

Mathura Museum:
The Mathura Museum, also known as the Government Museum, offers a deep dive into the city’s rich history. It boasts an impressive collection of ancient sculptures, coins, pottery, and paintings, primarily from the Kushan and Gupta periods. The museum is a treasure trove for history enthusiasts and art lovers alike.
