Video of Chang'e-4's successful touchdown on moon

China released footage of Chang'e-4 lunar probe's touchdown on the far side of the moon and photos of the lander and rover, state media reported on Friday (January 11).

The Chang'e-4 lunar probe, launched in December, made the "soft landing" at 0226 GMT on January 3 and transmitted images since then, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

Photos of the lander and rover were sent back on Friday marking the success of the Chang'e-4 mission.

It is the latest step for China in its race to catch up with Russia and the United States and become a major space power by 2030. Beijing plans to launch construction of its own manned space station next year.
