Mount Pisgah is the namesake of the Pisgah National Forest. After a steep climb through hardwood forest, its summit can be reached at 5,271 ft. The name, Pisgah, comes from Deuteronomy 34:1. In Hebrew, Pisgah is written as פִּסְגָּה and literally means "summit." Here in North Carolina, the name was given to this peak by a Scotch-Irish Presbyterian minister named James Hall in 1776 (nps.gov). But, another man, Reverend Newton, is also credited for naming the peak (pisgahinn.com).

Before European contact, the Cherokee called Mount Pisgah "Elseetoss" and the Pisgah Ridge was called "Warwasseeta (https://www.pisgahinn.com/history-of-...."

On top of Mount Pisgah you will find the WLOS TV tower, but it certainly doesn't take away from the great view. While there are different starting points for this trail, we started about 2 1/2 miles from the summit. Here's the link to the trail we used: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/no...
