Mock Disaster

Mock Disaster is a special, annual event that gives students from the our School of Community and Health Studies programs real-life skills, through letting them the chance to practice what they’ve learned they know in a realistic setting. Taking place at our Morningside Campus, students act as they would in a real disaster, alongside volunteers who are all real volunteer first responders and healthcare workers, including physicians, nurses, respiratory technologists, pharmacists and social workers staff. In 2023 this exercise, students had to contend with a simulated train derailment, which led to other problems, including a bush bus crash, and a fire in a nearby Indigenous community.
