Uncovering the Secrets of a F-105 Shootdown: The Story You Didn't Know About the Vietnam War

Описание к видео Uncovering the Secrets of a F-105 Shootdown: The Story You Didn't Know About the Vietnam War

8 December 1966 was a day for yet another airstrike against North Vietnam for the F-105 operating 355th TFW based at Takhli, Thailand. Target was a POL storage facility near Phuc Yen. The Thuds were led by Col Broughton. The primary and secondary target were both covered by clouds so no bombs were dropped. And then, MiG-21s from 921st Fighter Regiment attacked. Their initial missile launches brought no result. The Thuds dropped their payload and dived away to escape the MiGs. One of them flown by Lt Col Don Asire dissapeared in clouds and only thing his mates knew was that he was shot down. Was it anti-aircraft artillery? Or maybe the MiG-21 that was following the Thuds in their dive. Was the MiG flown by a Soviet instructor pilot, a possible ace with six non-credited kills?

VSN's F-105 mod is a very welcome addition to not so populated list of Cold War era jets in DCS World.
