Cecilia Fajardo Hill "Conceptualisms in "Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960-1985""

The histories of conceptualism in Latin America have been dominated by the protagonism of men within notions of political activism and forms of resistance. Nevertheless, women have contributed immensely to conceptual art by introducing the body as the locus of political and aesthetic enunciation, to defy authoritarian governments and societies, as well as patriarchal systems of exclusion and oppression of women. The forms of conceptualism and experimental art that radical women created between the 1960s and 1980s, expand notions of the political to investigate, interrogate and repudiate the control and violence towards the body – feminine and social –, in order to propose a decolonized body that may also embrace the subjective and the intimate.
