【Pls look at the top comment first】For loyal aor lovers, Dominoe is a pretty well-known name that was a symbol among all the aor bands during late 1980s and early 1990s. Founded in 1987 by the guitarist Robert Papst and the singer Jörg Sieber, Dominoe had a successful beginning when their debut was released in 1988. The super single "Here I Am" from the debut was used by the French car manufacturer Renault in their commercial. "The Key" is the second album of Dominoe, which was released two years after their debut "Keep In Touch(1988)", by Virgin Schallplatten GmbH, the German subsidiary of Virgin Records.

If this is your first time to hear of Dominoe, especially for the young generation and new aor fans, I suggest you should never miss all the works from their debut and this superb record, taking you back to the best and memorable years. Their albums are widely spread and the repertoires of them are welcome by fans all over the world, not only including "Here I Am", but also many other perfect stuffs from both the debut and this album, coveying the essence of melodic rock.

There were some line-up changes in this album. Robert Papst left the band in 1989 to work as the producer of Dominoe while Marc Schiegl joined them on lead guitars. There were two keyboardists from the debut, Johnny Rohde and Angie Buchzyk, but this time the lady Angie also left Dominoe to start her solo career. Compared to the debut filled with plenty of keys, this time more guitars are added to the album. Including both lively tracks and slow ballads, "The Key" is perfectly written and produced with several music videos as the singles' promotion like "Angel Don't Cry", "Keep The Fire Burning" and "Coming Home".

"Lonely Nights" is one of the most underrated tracks. Though it was not considered as a single to be promoted, this song is an absolute aor masterpiece that brings a sense of nostalgia when the intro hit in the ears. It truly sounds Bon Jovi-oriented like "Livin' On a Prayer", but that is the artistic music feature of Dominoe, steady rhythms with splendid guitar works as well as its talkbox arrangements.

As one of the most classic repertoires of Dominoe, their best well-known single "Here I Am" is also included in this album as the last track, which maintained a grip on the singles charts for a mammoth 25 week time. It is never too exaggerated to emphasize that you will be hit in the heart when the opening track "Angel Don't Cry" kicks in, then get lost in the following songs one after another. Jörg Sieber had very good condition in voice with his wide vocal range to perform both fast rocking tunes and slow emotional ballads.

For aor collectors, "The Key" should be a must with the types of vinyl, cassette and CD. It was re-released in 2009 by NL Distribution, a Dutch Label, including seven bonus tracks, a marvelous remastered record. To find your favourite from this album, I trust the first two records of Dominoe will never be disappointing. Each track can be considered as the cup of tea for various listeners with its arrangement features in the main stream style of aor. One bonus track titled “Into The Fire" is another great stuff that will hit in your burning heart, so it gonna be better to get their remastered CD (2009).
