The separation of Heaven and Earth in Egyptian and world mythology

In ancient Egyptian mythology Shu, one of the primordial gods, is typically depicted as a man adorned with a feathered headdress, symbolizing air, and is often shown with his arms raised, holding up the sky (Nut) and separating it from the earth (Geb).
Shu's role was to separate Nut and Geb as they were entwined in the act of love. By creating space between them, he allowed life to flourish on earth.
The theme of separating heaven and earth is a recurring motif in many world religions and creation myths in Mesopotamia, Greece, China, Scandinavia, India, Japan, New Zealand, Polynesia, etc.
Hymn to Shu is found in the Magical Papyrus (Harris, No. 501) preserved in the British Museum, translated by E.A. Wallis Budge in his book, The Literature of the Ancient Egyptians, p 222.
