As someone who usually works from home, i love it when my job takes me into the city centre and I get to treat myself to lunch – and right at the top of the list of places to dine is @cardiffmarket1891 with its array of local street food vendors.

Today’s lunch cane from @thebeardedtaco , whose loaded tacos and filled quesadillas are inspired not just by Mexican street food but cuisine from across the world, thanks to the travels of company founders Sian and Jake.

Everything is made from scratch, locally sourced, all packaging is recycled and compostable, and their handmade corn tortillas are gluten-free.

I first tasted their Let’s Avo Cwtch taco at a street food event way back in 2017 and always find myself drawn to it when I see their distinctive green van out and about and they’re one of my favourites in the market too.

I love avocado at the best of times but when it’s lightly coated in crispy tempura batter, and topped with lemon and agave slaw, chipotle aioli and mango habanero salsa, it’s on another level.

Other taco options include Mexican shredded pork, Vietnamese BBQ pork, Achiote marinated chicken, and battered fish, from £7-£7.50 for medium and £10-£10.50 for large). Their quesadillas (from £5) also look amazing, loaded with cheese with the option to add pork or chicken, with a vegan alternative available.

You can even buy their handmade tortillas, alongside Mexican hot sauces. Chipotle peppers, refried beans and lots more, to recreate some of the dishes yourself at home… although I’m not sure my attempts would ever be this good!
