Located in Shibpur, Howrah, the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanical Garden, formerly known as the "Indian Botanical Garden" or "Calcutta Botanical Garden", is one of the largest and oldest botanical gardens in the world. This garden spans approximately 109 hectares, or about 270 acres, and houses a collection of over 12,000 plant species. It is managed under the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), which is a part of the Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests.
How to Reach? If you're coming from Howrah Station, it's very easy to reach the Botanical Garden. You can take a taxi or a direct B-Garden minibus, which will get you there in about 15-20 minutes. If you're coming from Kolkata, you can also take a bus from Exide More to B-Garden.
-Ticket Prices: The entry fee to the Botanical Garden is very affordable. For Indian visitors, the current ticket price is 30 INR per person. Children under 3 years old do not require a ticket. However, if you wish to engage in professional photography, there is a charge of 60 INR. You can also pay via UPI.
-Opening Hours: From March to September, the garden is open daily from 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM. From October to February, it opens from 5:30 AM to 5:00 PM. However, the morning walk time is between 7:00 AM and 7:30 AM, and tourist entry starts around 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM. It is open on holidays as well. To confirm the opening on any specific day, you can call at 033-26681466; 033-26680554. We've also provided the website link where you can find the map of the garden.

-Special Attractions: The main attraction of this garden is the Great Banyan Tree, which is the largest tree in the world with a circumference of over 330 meters and is over 250 years old. This gigantic tree spans over 1.6 hectares, or about 400 acres, and has around 4000 aerial roots. The Great Banyan Tree has even earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records due to its size. The tree itself is so expansive that it’s difficult to identify its main trunk, as it appears like a small forest with many branches.
-Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit the Botanical Garden is during winter. The cool and clear weather makes the garden and its plants look even more beautiful. Many domestic and international tourists visit the garden during this time.
