In this talk, Catherine Rottenberg discusses her book, The Rise of Neoliberal Feminism, offering insight into why identifying as a feminist has increasingly become a source of cultural capital for high-profile women from Hillary Clinton to Ivanka Trump. She argues that neoliberalism may actually need feminism in order to ‘solve’ the thorny issues of reproduction and care work.

Biography:
Catherine Rottenberg is Associate Professor in American & Canadian Studies at Nottingham University. Before coming to the UK, she spent ten years as a faculty member in the Department of Foreign Literatures and Linguistics and the Gender Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel. She has also been a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, a visiting professor at Columbia University, a fellow at the Frankel Institute for Advanced Judaic Studies, and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.
