The first thing you need to do when removing a car tyre is to let out the air, but removing the centre of the filler valve. Once this is done you can break the bead. The bead is the rim of the tire that seals against the wheel. There is usually a small ridge running around the inside of the rim, that the tyre pops over and keeps it air tight. It can be quite difficult to get the tire to move away from the outside of the rim and back over this ridge. The bead breaker part of the tool works really well, using the handle as a lever to make pushing the tyre back from the rim. This needs to be done before the tire can be taken off, and both sides need to be done.

Once the bead is broken the wheel and tyre can be put on the other part of the tool and clamped down. Then using the end of the lever to pull the edge of the tire over the rim, and them by levering against the centre of the tool the entire edge of the tyre can be pulled off the rim.

Once this is done the other edge of the tyre needs to be pulled over the same side in a similar way. I found that it was helpful to use a standard tyre lever to help with the larger Vevor Tire and Bead Breaker Tool handle.

With a little practice removing a tire is quite easy. The tool can also be used to put a tyre back onto the rim using the opposite end of the Vevor Tire Changer And Bead Breaker Tool.

I sometimes wish to take the tyres off classic motorcycle wheels. The bead breaker can be used for this, and it is made easier by putting the wheel on top of a piece of wood so that the bead breaker has better leverage on the thinner wheels. Additionally the clamp that holds the wheel onto the other part of the tool doesn't work with the thicker hub of a classic motorcycle wheel.
