what is philosophy of science?

I study an MPhil in Philosophy of Science at Cambridge uni after doing a BSc in Mathematics at Nottingham. Philosophy of science is a lil obscure and people often ask me what it's all about so here's the lowdown on it all!

Chalmers, Alan (2007) What Is This Thing Called Science?

Kuhn, Thomas (1962) The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (such an important book - introduces notion of paradigm shift)

Godfrey-Smith, Peter (2003) Theory and Reality

Popper, Karl (1959) The Logic of Scientific Discovery (Popper is the man where it basically all started and you will inevitably come across him! his verification and falsification principles are good concepts to start with)

I also like Bas van Fraassen and Nancy Cartwright. A bit more specialised but I love Nancy's work especially!
