The Bogo-Indian Defense is very similar to the Nimzo-Indian. Black plays the same first 3 moves, but on move 3 White chooses 3.Nf3 instead of 3.Nc3. As a result, Black's Bishop lands on b4 with check. By reserving his Queen's Knight move White can now choose to block the check in a number of ways 4.Nc3, 4.Nbd2 or 4.Bd2.

These different choices each lead to different systems of developments by White and so the way Black should respond also change.

It is the question of how to meet each of White's options that GM Niclas Huschenbeth tackles in "Learn the Bogo-Indian Defence" a 2 hour course supplementing "Learn the Nimzo-Indian Defence".

In this preview, Niclas analyzes an early deviation by White that is proving popular, namely 3.g3. Now Black can continue with the standard 3...Bb4+ but there is an excellent opportunity to transpose to a Benoni line where White has committed himself to a timid variation.

Black plays 3...c5 and after 4.Nf3 comes ...cxd4 5.Nxd4 d5 claiming space in the center. If White continues with the natural 6.Bg2 then ...e5! and Black is getting a great position.
