According to Hindu tradition, Sambhal is the place where the last incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Kalki Avatar, will be born. According to Hindu beliefs, this place is very holy, and an ancient temple was located there. Babar ordered his commander to demolish that temple, and build a mosque at the same place. The inscription on the mosque makes it clear that it was built on the orders of Babar. Interestingly, even today the remains of the temple can be seen in that mosque. The official historian of Akbar's court, Abul Fazal, has written in his book that Sambhal was an extremely important place for Hindus. But he did not mention that Babar had demolished the temple there and built a mosque.
