Being Erica -- Dr. Tom & Erica (a contest entry for TJC -- The Journey Contest, Round 2)

I made this video for the sake of entering round 2 of xfoxyamanda11's "The Journey Contest"! For Round 1 we could pick any character we wanted and I felt inspired to vid Karofsky because I'd never vidded him before other than in collab parts, but I loved his character, and had read a lot of fanfiction about him which made me love him even more. I wanted to pick someone unique who doesn't often get good character studies made about him, and I was inspired to show his journey. ;)

Now for Round 2, we were supposed to pick one family or or one friendship and show a journey that they'd been through together. It didn't have to be their complete journey, it could just be any single journey. And the family or friendship could potentially have more than 2 people in it.

I had a few ideas of who to do. I really love the journey Rumplestiltskin and his son Bae have on OUaT, but I've already vidded most of their journey and I wanted to vid a relationship I hadn't really vidded before!

Criminal Minds is a new fandom that I'd been obsessed with lately and I adore how there are so many awesome little friendships within the BAU team on that show, how they really are a "family" and even say so on the show, how they all have so much platonic love for one another. But in terms of real "journeys", I didn't think vidding any of them would really be quite what the contest had in mind.

I came really close to vidding the interesting journey the family on Switched at Birth has, or one specific aspect of it, as they come to terms with realizing the girls were switched at birth and how meeting their biological family members for the first time worked and how they all evolved over the course of the show so far.

But ultimately, I was most inspired to vid this fandom, the awesome Canadian TV show "Being Erica", for the first time. I've vidded like 1 or 2 clips from the Christmas episode of the show in a multi-fandom Christmas vidlet once and I've vidded Erica/Kai once for a collab part, but other than that, this is my first time ever vidding the fandom. And I'm so happy to have finally gotten to vidding it, because it deserves to have at least 1 video from me. Hopefully more. I really adore the series.

The strong platonic bond between Erica and Dr. Tom... it was such a wonderful journey, and these two and their bond really was the heart of the whole show! They went from strangers to a doctor/patient relationship to something much more personal starting around season 2, after Dr. Naadiah sent Erica into Tom's past and stuff. They became... a very unique set of friends who both cared about each other, rather than just Tom being professionally concerned for Erica. Tom started viewing Erica as a surrogate daughter on the show, since he had no relationship with his own daughter, Sarah, anymore. Tom's doctor role also became a teacher role, but eventually the teacher/student relationship did turn into something much closer to "equals" by the end, since she "graduated" and became a time-traveling therapist doctor herself. They loved each other and it was always in a purely platonic way. I hope I was able to convey their journey for anyone who doesn't already know the show, such as xfoxyamanda11 herself who has to judge the contest.

I know the video is long (15 minutes again!! It didn't have to be this long, lol... I just got kind of carried away... AGAIN). And it doesn't have much in terms of special, creative things. I don't care if I don't make it through to round 3. At least I tried to convey their journey and I had fun revisiting the fandom. ;) They have a LOT of scenes over the course of 4 seasons and it was really hard to decide which clips to put in and which to exclude. I re-watched a lot of episodes in seasons 1 & 2, especially, in the process of making this and I re-fell in love with the whole show. I didn't end up re-watching as much seasons 3 and especially 4, so I probably missed out on a lot of good moments - I just realized in 4x09 I could've used a slow dance between these characters! Oh well. Too late now. :P
