Join Keith Weldon and Sari as they step onto the notorious bridge near Camp Comfort outside Ojai, and then boldly go beneath the bridge and into the woods where the legend of the Char Man still lingers.

🌲 THE LOCATION & LEGEND:
The stretch of road known as Creek Road branches off Hwy 33 near Ojai and passes the historic Camp Comfort County Park.
Ever After in the Woods


Legend says that a concrete bridge spanning San Antonio Creek in that area is haunted by Char Man — described as a horribly burned figure with charred skin, often seen at or around the bridge at night, sometimes near the park’s old structures.


Among the many tales:

Char Man may have been a victim of a massive 1948 brush fire in the valley, or a man burned in a car crash whose body lay unattended and transformed into the apparition.

People driving or walking the bridge at night have reported smells of burning flesh, sudden chills, a figure appearing in the woods, and even experiences of feeling their car or body being rattled.


Camp Comfort itself — though by day a quiet scenic county park — is tied to other ghost stories: a headless motorcyclist, a bride in white wandering the woods, the “vanishing hitchhiker,” and the general sense of dread around the old campground and creek crossing.

We walk across the infamous bridge, then we descend underneath it — exploring hidden recesses, old creek beds and structural shadows often ignored.


We document subtle signs: unexplained temperature drops under the bridge, shifting shadows in the woods, odd tapping or echoing sounds in the creek tunnel — and even moments where the vibe changes in a way that makes you feel watched.
