The Ruins of Templehouse, Dunlop, East Ayrshire

Описание к видео The Ruins of Templehouse, Dunlop, East Ayrshire

Templehouse was first held, under the Knights Templars, as part.of the lands of the Templelands of Dunlop Hill by their vassals, the Gemmell or Gemmill family who remained in occupation for around 500 years. The last of the line was Minnie Gemmell who died in 1962 and as no heir was found the buildings fell into ruins.

The curling club used the flooded Minnie's Meadow and Dunlop Golf Club had a course with a members pavilion nearby. The walled garden is similar to the one at nearby Borland and may date from the early 19th century.

The old walled garden has a flora dominated by Snowdrops and the rare Winter Heliotrope.
