The fear that most beginners have with applying caulk or silicone is that it’s messy and they’re worried that the end result won’t look good or seal where it’s meant to seal. The fact is, is that once you know how, applying caulk or silicone is really quite simple.
The first thing you need to know is that caulk typically comes in three different variaties. Now Keeping it simple, you have latex-based caulk, silicone-based caulk and Butyl Rubber based caulk.
Latex Caulking is generally used in dry areas…is water based, so you can clean up in water and typically used for caulking carpentry trim like architraves around doors and windows as well baseboards or skirting boards
Silicone caulking is used in wet areas like in a bathroom or kitchen countertop and Butyl Rubber Caulk is an exterior grade sealant.
