Tucker from MACkite delivered an in-depth review of the highly anticipated FLITElab AMP Jet system, focusing on its performance as a multi-discipline wing foiling and foiling solution. He began by introducing the AMP S model, a lightweight, full carbon fiber 40-liter board designed to function either as a traditional high-performance foil board or as a jet-assisted setup with the removable jet drive cartridge. This dual-use design impressed him as it effectively offers a “one board quiver” option—ideal for riders who want versatility without hauling multiple boards. The AMP S balances width in the nose for lift and stability with a compact, refined tail design, making takeoff easier and enhancing turning performance. Additional refinements, like angled track slots for easy foil setup, chines for stability and drag reduction, and a nearly flat concave deck pad for leverage, showed the board’s careful engineering.
The standout innovation is the jet drive assist system. Unlike prop-based foil drives, the AMP Jet integrates seamlessly into the board without adding drag to the mast or foil. The waterproof Launchpad controller automates thrust delivery, adjusting power output for disciplines such as winging, prone, or downwind foiling. Preloaded programs manage thrust ramp-up, delay, and cut-off, making takeoffs smooth and virtually effortless. Tucker highlighted how the system senses when the board lifts onto foil and automatically disengages, eliminating the need for constant throttle control. He also tested the paddle assist mode, which adds subtle thrust while paddling, helping riders get back into the lineup or push through waves with less effort. Battery performance was another strong point, with the Launchpad lasting 8–10 sessions per charge and the dual jet drive batteries capable of operating together or independently, depending on thrust needs.
On the water, Tucker was blown away by the AMP Jet’s ability to make low-wind and small-wave conditions rideable. He described taking off in winds where he would normally need a much larger wing, finding the jet-assist system made lift-offs nearly effortless. He compared the experience favorably to traditional foil drives, noting the AMP Jet avoids the drag and sudden acceleration that come with prop-based systems. The board’s performance as a pure foil board—when the jet system is swapped out for the blank insert—was equally impressive, maintaining responsiveness, stability, and turning ability. Tucker suggested advanced riders would particularly appreciate the AMP S, while beginners might benefit from the larger, more stable AMP M series for easier progression and downwind performance.
Ultimately, Tucker concluded that the FLITElab AMP Jet system marks a breakthrough for foiling, almost creating a new category in the sport: jet-assisted foiling. Its lightweight build, seamless integration, customizable automation, and high-performance design make it a viable replacement for multiple boards and foils. He even recommended adding optional stick-on foot strap inserts for riders who want more aggressive control. While not the best entry-level choice, the AMP S impressed him as a top-tier, versatile board for experienced foilers ready to push their riding into new territory.
