Newport City - Fundraising to fight Hygiene Poverty - A 12 hour football match in aid of Charity

The idea came about in August 2024 at an AGM, around the possibility of a 24 hour football match, looking at 2025. After some discussion the football match was then given an October 2024 date, which meant a very quick turnaround in planning and preparation. The deadline was pushed to November 2024 to give an extra month of planning.

A number of partners all came together including Duffryn Community Link (charity and organiser), Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed (facility provider), Newport City (hosts & organiser), as well as businesses supporting the event including The Celtic Manor, Smith and Nephew and many more.

With the aim of a 24 hour football match, we decided to move to a 12 hour football match due to the temperature, safeguarding and maximisation of the event during this winter period, we had well over 50+ players for the event in attendance, including players travelling outside of the Newport area. Our groups extended to attendees including male and female, BAME, ALN/Disability and FSM, we were proud to bring the internal and extended community together in this one event.

Within this episode we talk to some of the clubs representatives about the cause and the purpose of the event; we talk to some of the players and the importance of their commitment, as well as how they've grown as an individual with their time at the club and we capture some game footage, giving insight into the event and community cohesion.
