Описание к видео "The Parenting Identity Development Model" - Mercedes Samudio, LCSW

"I feel like this framework can really be compared to Erikson’s Psychosocial Developmental Theory, and that’s because the way that I have created and crafted the identity model, the PID model whether is at that each stage of development, there is a task that needs to be completed in order for the parent to achieve competency, confidence, and a healthy self-image of their complete parenting identity. It’s supported by the work of Ellen Galinsky, and if you haven’t looked at her work, I think she has a really cool book called “The Six Stages of Parenthood,” and it’s the only time that I have seen in the literature, in the research, where we really look at parenting as an identity to develop into as opposed to a role that all of us just gather and get because we have children. As I mentioned, Erik Erikson. Daniel Levinson has an adult transition model or adult development model that I think really has a lot of weight when we’re looking at humans becoming parents, because most of us become parents in our adult age group and the adult developmental phase. A lot of this model is also bolstered by the work of Bessel van der Kolk and Donna Jackson Nakazawa, so if you don’t know her, she wrote a book called Childhood Disrupted, and both her book and van der Kolk’s book, The Body Keeps the Score, talk a lot about how trauma changes our human experiences, and a little bit of that went into how and when we’re developing a parenting identity, how important it is to recognize trauma of parent’s when a parent kind of gets into the age group that their child is in, and how that trauma from that age group that the parent had in their childhood influences what’s going on for that parent and that identity development model, if you will."
