Si estáis por la zona de Baeza y Úbeda en Jaén y os gusta ver aves y otros animales, os recomiendo mucho esta laguna. De fácil acceso y recorrido, nos permitirá ver muchos animales, yo conté al menos 38 especies avistadas, entre aves, mamíferos y reptiles.
Las dieciocho hectáreas de extensión de su lámina de agua convierten a la Laguna Grande en la más extensa de la provincia, además de ser una de las más importantes por su estado de conservación. Lo más singular de esta laguna es su origen, ya que fue el hombre el que impulsó su creación, tal vez aprovechando un pequeño humedal ya existente, con el propósito de regar los inmensos campos de olivo que hoy día la rodean.
Estos cultivos sustituyeron a la vegetación natural del paraje, aunque todavía existen algunas encinas dispersas que recuerdan la vegetación que dominaba la zona en otra época. Alrededor del agua, además de la vegetación palustre de carrizos, espadañas y juncos, destacan la presencia de tarajes, álamos, fresnos y zarzas, donde encuentra sombra el visitante y cobijo la fauna del lugar.
Esta laguna, de carácter permanente y que sufre notables fluctuaciones de nivel, se alimenta del Río Torres, a través de canales de riego. Precisamente por mantener agua durante todo el año, especialmente en verano, este humedal cobra especial importancia para las aves acuática. En esta época, las lagunas naturales de la provincia se encuentran secas y los pájaros encuentran aquí un lugar idóneo de alimentación y refugio. Con la ayuda de los observatorios dispuestos alrededor de la laguna, el visitante podrá disfrutar de estas aves, entre las que se pueden citar a la cerceta común, ánade real o el porrón común, destacando el pájaro moscón por tener una distribución muy reducida. Con suerte, pueden observarse los curiosos nidos de esta pequeña ave, colgando en los árboles de este paraje natural.

This permanent lagoon, which suffers notable level fluctuations, is fed by the Torres River, through irrigation channels. Precisely because it maintains water throughout the year, especially in summer, this wetland takes on special importance for waterfowl. At this time, the province's natural lagoons are dry and birds find here an ideal place for food and shelter. With the help of the observatories arranged around the lagoon, the visitor will be able to enjoy these birds, among which one can mention the common teal, mallard or the common pochard, highlighting the Eurasian penduline tit for having a very reduced distribution. With luck, you can see the curious nests of this small bird, hanging on the trees of this natural area.
